The most important features and capability of NetSuite is that you can get a complete view of your current business status from the dashboard. This is very crucial as using which you can get an overall view about your business and the key areas where you need improvement. With the help of KPI portlets one can easily understand all the details about the business in a single glance. NetSuite’s real-time Dashboards provide you with business intelligence from a single system of record across all areas of your company—from accounting and sales, to fulfillment and support.

There are standard KPI’s offered by NetSuite and in addition you can add Custom KPI’s which are saved searches created by you. KPI Dashboard, provides a visual workspace that gives users instant, uninterrupted access to accurate information. A dashboard is available not only on your home page, but on every page you see in NetSuite except the Documents, Setup, and Customization pages. On your dashboards, you can view the data you need to make decisions, and edit records.

Dashboard content is displayed in a variety of portlets, dynamic data display windows. Some portlets provide direct access to raw data, and others display data that has been synthesized into critical business metrics, such as key performance indicators (KPIs), performance scorecards, trend graphs, and report snapshots.

How to create Custom KPI’s in NetSuite?

To create Custom KPI’s in NetSuite you need to follow the two steps.

  • Create a Saved Search.
  • Add the Saved Search to the Custom Portlet KPI.

How to Create a Saved Search?

  • Log into your NetSuite account as administrator.
  • Creating saved searches go to Reports > Saved Searches > All Saved Searches > New.
  • Then a list of Saved Search Types will appear. Choose the Search Type you want.
  • Then a Saved Search form will appear.
  • Enter the name of the Saved Search in SEARCH TITLE field.
  • To define Saved Search characteristics click on the Criteria tab and set the particular criteria. For setting Criteria click inside the FILTER tab.
  • Click on the Set tab. Then you can see the Criteria you added in the FILTER field.
  • Under Results tab you can determine how you want to view your search results. You can add the number of columns that you want to appear in the FIELD.
  • When you have created the search, you can now Save.

How to add the Saved Search to the Custom KPI portlet?

  • From the KPI portlet window click on Setup, which will open up a pop up window.
  • Click Add Custom KPI’s button. It will open up another popup. From there you can choose the Saved Search from the left list (up to 10). You can add the required saved searches and than click Done.
  • After that you can set the date ranges for each Saved Search in the RANGE field.
  • You are done, just after that click Save.

Note: KPIs cannot enforce summary search filters because KPI calculations do not include groupings. If a saved search used as a custom KPI includes any summary search filters, the result for the KPI may differ from results when the search is run.
